Après des années d’expériences en trio, en quartet ou en septet, c’est cette fois-ci en solo qu’Eve Beuvens nous présente les compositions de son album “Inner Geography” : huit titres entre impressionnisme et introspection.
En août 2018, Eve reçut du Gaume Jazz Festival la proposition d’un concert en solo pour l’année suivante. Elle fît sept fois le tour de son piano et accepta de relever le défi ! Depuis le début de sa vie de pianiste, Eve avait toujours composé pour son trio, son quartet ou son septet, mais jamais pour elle seule. Elle s’est alors immergée dans les disques de piano solo qui l’avaient marquée depuis
son adolescence pour y puiser son inspiration : Herbie Hancock « The Piano », Thelonious Monk « Solo Monk », Keith Jarrett « Live in Rio » mais aussi ceux de Paul Bley, Masabumi Kikuchi ou Dollar Brand. Puis elle s’est mise à composer. Elle a créé un répertoire très personnel constitué de morceaux contrastés, formant un ensemble cohérent et riche en détails subtils. Elle le présenta au Gaume Jazz d’une manière à la fois simple et intense, créant ainsi une atmosphère particulière. Suite à ce concert, trouvant finalement beaucoup de joie à jouer seule, elle a décidé de poursuivre l’aventure et de construire un album en s’appuyant sur cette expérience.

After years of experience in trio, quartet or septet, this time Eve Beuvens presents the compositions of her album “Inner Geography” in solo: eight tracks somewhere between impressionism and introspection.
In August 2018, Eve received a proposition from Gaume Jazz Festival, asking her to do a solo concert the following year. After thinking it through she decided to accept the challenge! Since the beginning of her life as a pianist, Eve had always composed for her trio, her quartet or her septet, but never for her only. So she immersed herself into the piano solo records that had marked her since her teenage years to find some inspiration: Herbie Hancock « The Piano », Thelonious Monk « Solo Monk », Keith Jarrett « Live in Rio » but also those from Paul Bley, Masabumi Kikuchi or Dollar Brand. Then she started to compose.
She created a very personal repertoire made of contrasted tracks, forming a coherent whole, full of subtle details. She presented it at Gaume Jazz both in a simple and intense way, while creating a particular atmosphere. Following this concert, eventually finding much pleasure in playing alone, she decided to pursue the adventure and to make an album thanks to this experience.
